Happy Halloween!

Thursday, October 31, 2013

I for one love all Holidays...like love love. But it is safe to say that Halloween is in my top three! Fall is by far my favorite season, I love the crispness of the air and of course all of the colors that come with the changing of the leaves. The fresh apple cider and yummy pumpkin treats to me mean more than the fact that fall is here...they mean that Halloween is coming!

One thing that I miss most about being home during this time of year, is going to the pumpkin patch with my family. Greenbluff (where we always pick our pumpkins) is the setting for a lot of my favorite memories from home. Last year we were so busy planning our wedding that we didn't even have time to carve a pumpkin...so Kirby made sure we picked up our pumpkins and had them carved by Halloween this year! Boy am I glad he did too, because we had so much fun! We went over to his brother's house and carved with him and his wife and a couple of their friends. A few of them had never had baked pumpkin seeds! So I had to introduce them to the delicious snack that in my opinion should always go hand in hand with pumpkin carving. In the end it was a blast carving our cute little pumpkins.

Growing up, I was always one of those little girls that could play dress up all day everyday and never get tired of it. Now that I am an adult Halloween is the one time a year that I can let that side of me out again! Dressing up is even more fun now that I have a cute little husband to dress up with. My old roommate Laren hosted a delicious and festive dessert party where we were able to sport our costumes, hang out with some of our best friends, and get the pants scared off of us by telling scary stories!

So happy Halloween! May all of your festivities be spooky and exciting!

Favorite Concerts

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

I have always been in a choir, for as long as I can remember. My mom used to tell me that I could sing before I could talk. Singing is and always will be a piece of me.

Kirby can play just about every instrument known to man! I am constantly finding out about another one of his hidden musical talents. He is part of a band where he plays the bass guitar and sings the back-up vocals.

It is easy to say that music is more than just a part of life in our house. It is a way of life! There is something about good music that gets inside of you and never leaves. Without music life would be dimensionless. I think it is safe to say that you haven't experienced music until you have experienced it live. There is something that exists in the atmosphere of a live concert that can never be mimicked anywhere else.

Within the past month or so Kirby and I had the amazing opportunity to see two of my very very favorite bands play live!

Through Kirby's job we were able to go to a private Imagine Dragons concert. This concert was definitely more for my benefit than for Kirby's. I was jumping out of my seat the whole way down to SLC just at the thought of being there, getting ready to sing along to every song! The concert was INCREDIBLE! They are amazing live, and the feeling they produce is surreal. I was in heaven. They are so humble and sincere I was literally in tears through a lot of the concert. Not just because I love their music so much, but watching a whole arena of people cheer for these talented people fulfilling their dreams was the coolest thing! Kirby openly admits that while he was not a fan of theirs before the concert, after seeing them live he had a whole new respect for them and what they do.

When Kirby and I were engaged we became one of those mushy people who have "a song." Our song from then on has been Northern Wind by City and Colour. Dallas Green (City and Colour) has the most amazing, raw voice I have ever heard! He could sit there and sing acapella and keep an arena full of people mesmerized for hours! And the words to his songs (particularly our song) are all pure genius. So naturally, when we found out that he would be in SLC in the middle of a school week, we were prepared to drop everything and run there! Still, just thinking about that concert gives me the chills! Kirby and I have different taste in a lot of things, and in a lot of  music, so when we both love an artist as much as we love City and Colour it is always something special for us to share together.

The Benefits of Living in Rexburg

Thursday, October 3, 2013

As much fun as the summer was, it is so good to be back in Rexburg! Most people look down on Rexburg, but I love this little place. One of the things that I missed a lot about our home, is the beautiful garden that my in-laws grow. I mean, just look at the beautiful, fresh produce that they grow! This was my very first time picking my own veggies and I had so much fun! We did a crazy, 26 day cleanse that kind of killed us, but the benefit of having these free veggies was incredible and saved us so much money!

Something else we missed about Rexburg is the amount of mountains that surround us! We took advantage of the uncommonly warm fall and went exploring around Mesa Falls. It was my first time up there and it just took my breath away!
